/meta/ - Site Feedback

We've finally landed for real, and this is our biggest update yet, realizing many feature requests by our users, as well as personal goals on our end. With this we consider Island Zero essentially a finished website, with mere maintenance and small fixes to keep working on, lest we get new, good, ideas from our community; there is also a roadmap at the end of this post of remaining updates which we will get to at our leisure, but making public, in the spirit of making development of this website more transparent.

These are the patch notes. Keep new requests and ideas to their own threads.

NEW FEATURES:
- Live index: Threads can now be refreshed without a browser page reload.
- Auto refreshing: A subset of the feature above. You can toggle refreshing on a timer. Closes >>4.
- Cross-thread hovered previews: Hovering over a quote to a post in another thread or another board now gives you a preview of said post, just like local, same-thread, links do.
- Thread Watcher: You can now keep track of threads and replies. Thread Watcher can be enable in Settings. Closes >>1.
- Linkification: All valid URLs are now automatically linkified. Closes >>6.
- New keyboard shortcuts: Accommodates the auto update feature and the thread watcher. See the Settings panel for information.
- Dynamic front page: Front page with latest posts from all boards. Closes >>4.
- CAPTCHA refreshing: The CAPTCHA challenge can now be refreshed at will if too difficult. Closes >>8.
- Error transparency: More error messages implemented, and error messages are now more descriptive. Closes >>18.

On 4chanX extension you are able to toggle any post on the screen as (You) so that you receive notifications on the thread watcher if someone replies to it. It affects only your screen/browser. It is useful if you switch between desktop and mobile often.

That being said, it would be cool if threads where a poster had replied to one of our posts was highlighted on the thread watcher. I'm not sure if that happens already because I never noticed it.

On other boards you are able to link a specific reply by adding, for example, #p[ID] to the thread's URL. The site would then highlight the post with a different colour and automatically scroll to that post.

This would be a nice idea here especially for the /lang/ board when sharing our /lang/ challenges offsite.

Imagine that, along with the default themes we already have, users have the option to create a custom theme, where we select colours of background, of posts, of text, fonts etc... because why not?!

If you leave the subject blank while trying to making a thread, you will get a red bar, but it has no text. It seems like a subject is required. It was confusing. Maybe you can add a text to that error saying that a subject is required

How are there 4 posters on a thread with 3 posts (including OP)

Would be nice to have both an auto‐refresh function for threads, and a front page that shows recent posts/replies regardless which board they were posted to. The latter would make you read and/or weigh in on something you wouldn't have otherwise seen or cared for.

Often I get a 404 error when specifically pressing the Update button on a thread. What causes this?

Can we please get a thread watcher? It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to image boards.
